Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a member of the church to attend the service?
No. You are not required to be a member of the church to attend service. Though our service is conducted in Amharic and therefore knowledge of Amharic is desired, nevertheless, translators could be assigned upon request. Our church welcomes people from all walks of life.
What can I expect when I am here?
When you arrive you will be greeted and may be given a bulletin that contains details of the entire service. We also project the service on an overhead screen. Our Ushers are happy to answer any questions you might have.
At Ethiopian Evangelical Church of Toronto we seek to blend the best of both the ancient and modern expressions of Christian worship. We sing Amharic hymns written some decades ago, and we sing songs of praise written recently. Our choir is a part of our worship experience each week.
The Word of our God is central to our worship. Our pastors and lay preachers generally preach through a portion of a Bible book in Amharic. Each week then – we seek to understand and apply the truth contained in a particular passage of Scripture.
Do you have a dress code?
You don’t have to be in your “Sunday’s Best”. We want you to be comfortable in what you are wearing. Some people dress casually, some dress culturally. We don’t believe that certain clothes are inherently more spiritual than others. But through our dress and even our appearance we want to display modesty to glorify God our father.
What are the timings for your services and other activities?
We have bible studies and various teaching classes at our center beginning from 1pm on Sunday. Our Sunday afternoon worship service begins at 3pm. For a complete listing of activities, including activities on Sunday and Wednesday evenings, please check out our weekly schedule here.

Do you encourage small groups such as bible study and prayer meetings?
Yes. In fact, we have zonal fellowships in various locations in the city. Many of our members host home bible study fellowships and prayer meetings in their own homes during the week-days and weekends. We believe these groups provide invaluable strength to our church members and visitors. These home fellowship groups are found across the city.
If you are interested to join one of the home bible study fellowships or prayer meetings, please contact one of the elders or fill out the contact form to get started.
Is donation or tithe mandatory?
For those who are born-again believers and members of the church, it is imperative to faithfully give their offering and tithes. However, newcomers or visitors are not expected to do so unless they want to donate in their own free will for missions of the church. In return, we hope that the Word, worship, and Fellowship will be a gift to you.
All donations and tithes received goes towards our mission here in Toronto and also in Ethiopia in the form of church planting, supporting Evangelists, opening new schools, providing water wells and other necessities for the community in need.
